My dear brothers and sisters, have you ever wondered about the paradise that exists right here on earth? It’s not a place of material wealth or external appearances, nor is it found in praise, reputation, or physical beauty. This paradise is something far more profound—it is the ability to live with complete reliance on Allah, regardless of the circumstances.
When you live with this kind of reliance, you see the world in a different light. The anxieties, depressions, fears, and sadnesses that once weighed you down begin to diminish. You become stronger, more resilient, and better able to navigate life’s challenges. Yes, there will still be pain and sadness, but your perspective shifts, and you find yourself able to cope and move forward more quickly than before.
Studies have shown that people who have a strong connection with God are less likely to experience long-term depression or mental illness. They are more resilient and better equipped to deal with life’s ups and downs. This connection is known in Islam as Tawakkul.
Tawakkul means to have trust in Allah’s plan and to rely on Him in all situations. It doesn’t mean sitting back and doing nothing—it means doing everything within your ability, using the resources that Allah has given you, and then trusting in Him for the outcome. Whether the result is what you expected or not, whether others praise you or criticize you, a person with Tawakkul remains steadfast and does not boast when things go well, nor become pessimistic when they don’t. So how can you cultivate Tawakkul in your life? It’s like giving your problems to Allah, trusting that He knows what’s best for you. Here’s a simple four-step process:
- Problem Identification: Clearly identify the problem that is troubling you. Write it down and focus on it.
- Empty Your Mind: Close your eyes and sincerely ask Allah to take the problem off your shoulders. Imagine releasing it to Him completely.
- No Expectations: After giving your problem to Allah, let go of any expectations about the outcome. Trust that whatever happens is for the best.
- Take Action: Do everything you can within your power to fix the problem, using the resources that Allah has given you. But remember, the outcome is in Allah’s hands.
Avoid the extremes of relying solely on cause and effect, forgetting about Allah’s role in your life, or relying solely on Allah without taking any action. Strike a balance between effort and reliance on Allah, and you will find a deep sense of peace and contentment, even in the midst of life’s challenges. Remember, this world is temporary, but your connection with Allah is eternal.
